Dubai Offers Eco-Friendly Taxi
A majority of Dubai residents rely on taxis to get about, but using a cab isn’t exactly eco-friendly. However, it has just been disclosed that all of Dubai’s taxis will be environmentally friendly by the end of the next five years.
To make taxis in Dubai more eco-friendly, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has approved a plan to overhaul the industry by 2027. How? All of the city’s cabs will be hybrids, electrics, or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles by the deadline.
Tesla Model 3
The city’s transition away from taxis powered by fossil fuels has been rapid. For its taxi fleet, the government of Dubai purchased Tesla Model 3 saloons last year.
In 2017, RTA began testing out 172 Teslas as part of its limousine service, and the results were so positive that the company decided to roll out the fleet permanently.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, then detailed his plans to make Dubai a carbon-neutral metropolis by the year 2050. Dubai committed to reducing carbon emissions through the implementation of its Clean Energy Strategy at COP26, held in the UK in October 2021.
Please bring on the cleaner, greener city.
