The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Marketing Dubai have announced that the Dubai Metro Music Festival will return for a third year from March 6-12.

Throughout the weeklong festival, some of the most forward-thinking musicians from around the world will perform live at five different metro stations: Union, Mall of Emirates, Burjuman, Dubai Financial Centre, and Sobha Realty.

Twenty performers from all over the world, both nationally and internationally, will deliver engaging sets for the commuters, showcasing their individual creative sparks across a broad variety of instruments, genres, and styles.

“The Roads and Transport Authority is committed to supporting creative events that enhance the way people engage with Dubai’s urban environment,” said Rowdah Al Mehrizi, Director of Marketing & Corporate Communication, Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector, RTA. As part of our shared mission to provide residents and visitors of Dubai with engaging cultural experiences, we are thrilled to announce the renewal of our cooperation with Brand Dubai to present the third annual Dubai Metro Music Festival. The Festival contributes to our common goal of making the people of Dubai happier by bringing entrancing musical and cultural notes to their daily travel on the Dubai Metro.

The Director of Brand Dubai, Shaima Al Suwaidi, has remarked, “The Festival’s third edition boasts a fresh line-up of immensely skilled performers whose performances adds various styles, instruments, and musical traditions to the event.”

According to Al Suwaidi, Brand Dubai is happy to work with the Roads and Transport Authority again to host innovative events that showcase Dubai’s tourist attractions.

Unique creatives

The festival will feature a wide range of musical styles, from classical to fusion, to appeal to the diverse population that makes up Dubai. Performers will show off their skills on a wide variety of instruments, including stringed, percussion, wind, acoustic, and odd ones fashioned out of found materials.

Egypt, India, France, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Nigeria, Cuba, the United Kingdom, Lebanon, Canada, the Netherlands, Jordan, and Australia are just some of the countries represented in this year’s Festival.

Also performing are the Emirati electric guitarist Eman Al Raeesi and the Saudi oud player Shadi L.Harbi, who is self-taught.

Many musical instruments

This year’s concert showcases a wide variety of traditional instruments, including the Qanun (a string instrument), piano, flute, oud, drums, saxophone, Santur (an antique instrument), guitar, and harmonica. Electric guitars, hand pans, and other improvised instruments will also be used.

Thrilling shows

Audiences will be exposed to unusual instruments like the flute beatbox, musical styles like folk beatboxing, and one-of-a-kind performances like a puppet show that combines music with simulations of Umm Kulthum’s performances, a musical show featuring instruments made from recycled materials, a performance by the youngest DJ in the Middle East, music played by a woman performer with a “mirror head,” and a two-guitar show.

Live shows will be open to the public daily between the hours of 4 PM and 10 PM. For the course of the festival’s run, all five subway stops will play host to a different set of acts.
