11 Deals Worth a Total of Dh4.5 billion Announced at first day of Abu Dhabi Defence Exhibition
On the first day of the Abu Dhabi defence exhibition, military deals worth Dh4.5 billion were signed. On the first day of the 16th International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) and the seventh Naval Defence and Maritime Security Exhibition (NAVDEX) in Abu Dhabi, 11 deals worth a total of Dh4.5 billion were announced.
Zayed Saeed Al Meraikhi, the official Tawazun Council spokesperson, said at a press conference that there were six local contracts worth Dh2.3 billion and five international contracts worth Dh2.2 billion. “In total, we had 11 contracts worth a total of Dh4.5 billion,” she said. The Tawazun Council is a government organisation that works closely with the UAE’s Ministry of Defense and security agencies. It is in charge of buying things for the Ministry of Defense, the UAE Armed Forces, and security agencies.
The five-day events are held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) with help from the Ministry of Defense. They are supported by the President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
1350 Big Companies Showing off their Goods
With 1,350 companies showing off their goods, the number of exhibitors has grown by 50% since the last show in 2021. Also, as many as 65 countries are taking part, which is 10% more than the last time this event was held.
“Big companies, people in charge, and experts from all over the world have come to this edition. More than 350 official delegations from all over the world are here. The number of national pavilions has grown by 17% to 41, and the total area of the exhibition has grown by 20% to 165,000sqm.
“The UAE wing is the largest, covering more than 23,000sqm. Turkey and the US are next in size.” IDEX and NAVDEX Talks, a series of interactive panel discussions, have been added for the first time in the event’s history. There is a special area for start-ups, where more than 82 companies from 25 countries have set up shop. Several naval ships from seven different countries are taking part in the NAVDEX.
More than 130,000 people are expected to attend this year’s event.
Details of Six Deals in the Area
- Halcon, which is a part of Edge Group, signed a Dh2.14 billion contract to buy the Thunder P3 system.
- Maplin Marine Systems and Services has signed a Dh78 million contract to provide technical support services for ships.
- Mohamed Abdulrahman Al-Bahar signed a Dh45 million contract to give technical support for Caterpillar vehicles.
- Atlas Telecom signed a Dh26 million deal to buy SR Hawk radars and portable radars.
- Al Hamra Trades was given a Dh8 million contract to buy inspection devices and explosives detectors and keep them in good shape.
- Romco International has a Dh4 million contract to clear mines.
Details on 5 Deals with Other Countries
- PT PAL Indonesia signed a deal for a multi-mission ship worth Dh1.5 billion.
- Thales LAS, a French company, signed a deal for GM403 radars worth Dh421 million.
- Alliant Techsystems in the US was given a Dh202 million contract to buy ammunition.
- France’s MBDA was given a Dh92 million contract to provide technical support for missiles.
- Rohde and Schwarz, a German company, signed a contract worth Dh3 million to help with the technical side of communication systems.
